Elgin
is located in the northeast corner of the state of Oregon, and at the
base of the Blue Mountains. We are also situated on the Hells Canyon
Scenic Byway. The area is known for its quality steelhead and rainbow
trout fishing. The Elgin area has plenty of deer, elk and wild turkey
hunting. Hunting seasons run from late August to early December depending
on the type of game sought. Winter sports include alpine and cross-country
skiing, groomed snowmobile trails, and dog sled races. The Elgin Opera
House is also a big favorite of history buffs. The Opera House was built
in 1912 and continues to be a single screen movie theater and stage
for local music and theater productions.
